Brandt Dodson

"Look, if you have a foot problem, see a podiatrist"

Amen, Chip!

By the way, regardless of how Publisher's Weekly came to its "top ten" conclusion, I think they made the right choice.
I'm proud to have you represent me.

Angela Meuser

Chip, what do you think of authors who turn down movie deals like Barbara Park--author of Junie B. Jones? I'm guessing it depends on the situation, but I'd love to hear your opinion. Thanks.

Chris Well

Chip, when you get me a $250,000 offer, I promise to take it. If only for the sake of our friendship.

chip

I have no idea why Barbara Park turned down the movie deal for Junie B Jones, but I assume she had her reasons. No opinion at all on that one. If it were my book, and I liked the company, I'd have done the deal.

And, for those who don't know, famed novelist Brandt Dodson (above) is a podiatrist!

Jim Rubart

Hey Chip, don't know if you're a college football fan, but many of the people who have asked you questions as of late have the same names as ex-UW Husky coaches: Ty, Don, Rick, James. Pretty cool coincidence, 'cause in '09 the Dawgs are on the road to their former glory.

chip responds

I'm a huge college football fan, Jim (Go Ducks!), and yes, I used those names to tweak all the sorry Univ of Warshington fans. Ty (who went winless this year and just got fired), Don (who got them onto NCAA probation, then couldn't be a man and own up to the fact that he cheated), Rick (who bet illegally, got them onto probation, then sued the university) -- great hires all. Now they have a new coach. You're right -- maybe HE can lead them back to those glorious days of NCAA Probation Hearings!

Rachel Hauck

Wow, congrats on the Publishers Weekly nod! Way to go! I'm not surprised.

Rachel

John Robinson

What Brandt said. I'm also equally proud to call you my agent, Chip.

Courtney Walsh

I especially like what you said about the possibility of over-editing writers today. Writers like Mark Twain and Charles Dickens had such a different audience, they could afford to be wordy. I suppose not having to worry that the book won't hold the interest of an audience with an extremely short attention span helps in that arena.

What would it be like to live in a world where the most tried and true form of entertainment was a book?

I sort of wish I could find out.

Congrats on Publisher's Weekly! Like Rachel said, I'm not surprised! :)
