"Beats me. Maybe you'll hear angels singing, or there will be a holy glow emanating from the agent's chair."

Okay, that made me chuckle.

You're so blunt-it's refreshing. No chance to misunderstand that's for sure. :-)

I'm looking forward to ACFW in September. Should be a blast.

Great post.

I'm extremely proud to say that the MacGregor Literary Agency will be present this year at the Muse Online Writers Conference. This will be the fourth year we've offered this FREE conference, which attracts almost 2000 writers, editors, publishers and agents from around the world.

No expenses for traveling, hotel costs...nadda. And you can come in your birthday suit because we don't accept cams. LOL!

You can find out all about the conference and our 2009 Workshop line up so far by going here:
www.themuseonlinewritersconference.com

Each year we offer close or over 100 workshops by professionals in the industry.

Check out the 2009 Workshop page to find out when the MacGregor Agency is scheduled during the conference to be held:
October 12 - 19. Deadline to register is August 1st.

And, Chip, hopefully we'll snag you for many years to come seeing how we'll ease the monetary output in your wallet and all of the attendees at our conference. I, for one, am looking forward to your pitch and chat sessions. Thank you for joining us this year.

Sharon A Lavy

Ahh Chip. I love that Southern Baptist cooking at Blue Ridge.

Judith Robl

Aarrgghh! Hanging it up? I've been looking forward to meeting you. Some time. Somewhere.

But I'm going to Philly this year, so I'll be scheduling with Sandra.

Ramona Richards

I also cast a vote for Blue Ridge, and this year your keynote was one of the best I've heard. ALL the right elements (we laughed, we cried, we learned something...). I don't mind the cooking, but my friends tell me I have the same palate discernment of a hedgehog.

One of my goals is to hit one of the bigger writer's conferences as well. I love the networking and making new friendships with industry folk who understand how I think and why I can suddenly go blank in the middle of a conversation, then start scrambling for a pen.

After selling 7 books, I still don't have an agent, but now I know it's because I thought that glow from the other side of the table was just too much caffeine. Darn.

Kelly Combs

I thought this post was so funny! I'm going to the Philly conference, so I won't see you but perhaps Sandra.

And I promise not to slide her anything under the bathroom stall. :-)

Linda Taylor

Thanks Chip. I sent this link to the students I just finished teaching at a May term class (three weeks on "From Manuscript to Book: How It Happens"). We talked a lot about Writers' conferences and your Q&A list here will be helpful reading for them.

And then there are those of us who agree to direct theatrical productions during ACFW. Talk about stupid. I loved it last year and have to say the best contact I made was purely by accident and it wasn't an agent or an editor but a published author whose advice and knowledge has been priceless for me.

Thanks for the list of other conferences... I've been trying to find one given my scheduling blunder.

Oh, and I laughed out loud a couple of times during this post too. :)

Ashley WongTong

Darn. I've been perfecting my business cards for months, hoping that you'd accept one in September and frame it.

My life is pointless.

Robert Treskillard

Chip,

Glad I was able to meet you at last year's ACFW conference, and I really appreciate the advice you gave.

Good for you to take some time off and focus on your clients!

LOL @ guilt-ridden Southern Baptists. Alhough, they do have some of the best potlucks!

This is not a year for me and conferences, unfortunately. Maybe next year.

Sue

I didn't see it on your list, but I sure hope to see you this next weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan!

Thanks for all the great info!
Sue
