Thanks for the info.

BRAVO, Chip, for your definition of "Christian novel." Now everyone reading your blog should memorize it.

You said if a proposal has been with a publisher for more than a year, chances are there's not a lot of enthusiasm for it.

In your experience, how long should a proposal be with a publisher before you give it up as a lost cause and move on with the proposal? And is it proper to advise the publisher that you're withdrawing the proposal to explore other avenues?

Thanks for sharing your expertise.

A publishing friend wrote to say, "Voice is great for a novelist, but with a nonfiction book, the ONE THING that will make a proposal stand out is PLATFORM." She's right, and I should have noted that.

In terms of time, I don't know that I've got a set amount of time a proposal should be at a publishing house, but here's what I know to be true: The shorter amount of time before you hear, the greater the enthusiasm. If a proposal has been sitting around for a year, there's obviously no enthusiasm for it.

Pray to God for help and guidance with what you are doing. This is true for whether you are a writer or anything else.

God Bless,

Thanks for such a great article. My only comment is that sometimes the listings in Writers Market are pretty outdated. I use wordhustler.com- all their listings are free.

Thanks, Chip!

Man, Gwenyth, you must have read my mind. It's like your part of me or something.... spooky.
