I totally agree with taking a Sabbath, but it took me a LONG time to come to that place. It's easy to feel guilty for not working, and it's hard to turn my brain off! But when I do, it makes all the difference in the world.

Chip and Sandra, huge congrats on all those successes. You've surrounded yourselves with great authors. :-)

I love this, Keri! Thanks for this--it is comforting and convicting, all at once--I usually take Sabbath for everything BUT writing--but this post inspires me to remember that taking Sabbath is as much about obedience to God's law as it is about rest and renewal. Thank you!

Agreed on the Sabbath-keeping here too. My church community is big on Sabbath-keeping, but it does take a leap of faith. When others are mowing the lawn and doing laundry on Sundays, I fight those urges and rest and read. I admit I still scribble note for writing on Sundays, though--but only if it's a little line or fragment I'll forget by Monday. I don't actively sit and collect notes or write.

Thanks for this reminder to devote that one day to God. I figure it's not one of the ten commandments for nothing!

Congrats to Jeff/Jill as well. So cool. (Re: previous April 30, post.)

Lovely post, Kerri. Thanks for writing it. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I need my friends. I need to breath in God's creation (my trees are budding and flowering and birds are tweeting. I love spring!) And I need to rest.

Jill

ps. Thanks, Jim! :-)

This was an amazing piece! I posted the link on my facebook page to encourage other writers, as well.

Thanks, Becky! And I'm glad you shared it on FB. Chip, thanks for letting me share my thoughts here--and congrats on being named one of the five best agent blogs!

What a timely post. I've just begun work on a book about prayer and thought about working non-stop on it just as I did my last Bible study. Now I know better. Thanks!!
