And for the record, I'm NOT suggesting you use your literary agent to do this for you. Most of them won't know what they're doing in that arena either. I don't pretend to tell my authors how to run their speaking careers. I can advise on occasion, but I admit to not being an expert in the field. Instead, I work with Tiffany Colter, who runs Command Performance Speakers Bureau. She does a good job, she doesn’t over-promise, she let’s people know it’s a speaking service more than a company that will seek out opportunities for you. She will step in and negotiate your deal, and take care of all the details for you. Tiff coordinates my seminars for me, and does a great job of it. She negotiates contracts for speakers, and gets them more than they’d get themselves because the author feels awkward negotiating or bragging about himself.

I just used Tiffany's editing services and got way more than my money's worth. Didn't realize she negotiates speaking contracts too. Mercy...Is there anything she doesn't do well?

I would imagine that nonfiction sales struggle because if others are like me, they prefer to check a nonfiction title out from the library rather than spending money on something that's only needed for a specific instance (research, answering a question, finding out more about a topic) if the info isn't available online.

Thank you for taking time to help us. I appreciate it.

Ah, that cross-genre thing. I'm sure I've been guilty of the same - so desperate not to include whatever you might think it is that I make you stop reading the list.

Could be worth remembering in writing stories as well as describing genres I guess.

Thanks for linking to the story in your post. That was nice of you. I think Amy, the author of the post, is pretty remarkable. I wish more people who aren't Christians would pick up a Christian novel and try it out, like she did.
