Chip, after reading your secrets for success, I spent half an hour scouring the internet for lists of good-looking and/or Scottish agents who represent my genre, but Publisher's Marketplace doesn't seem to list by those criteria. Can you recommend any good ones? Preferably who accept unsolicited submissions.

chip responds

What?! They've cut the "good looking Scottish agents" category? Huh. Must have been the dearth of qualified candidates, I guess.

Bethany

Huh. Who knew the "soft voice" answer would be so interesting. Now I just have to figure out where to log it...

AimeeLS

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU TALK QUIETLY? MY IMAGE IF YOU IS TOTALLY BLOWN! REMOVE MY SUBMISSION FROM THE SLUSH-PILE! NOTIFY THE *Cough* *Ahem* sorry, somehow hit 'function: obnoxious' on my sticky-keys.

I'm with Bethany - it's weird how significant that little tid-bit seemed to my unexpecting psyche.

Commentary to come when I've had time to assimilate to this new world.

Chip, based on your comments, I would have to conclude that I am your ideal client! Creative. . .check. Low maintenance. . .check. Great sense of humor. . .check. Scottish. . .check! Woo-hoo! (I could've checked a couple others, but decided to focus on the important ones, primarily my Scottish heritage.)

Karen Robbins

I'm not Scottish. I was born on St. Patrick's Day though and Ireland is just a stone's throw from Scotland. Would that help?

Judith Robl

Sob, sob... Southwest Christian Writers Studio - how I wish I were going to be there. Will you be on faculty next year? Or do you know yet?

Tiffany Colter

Hmmm, I sound like a nearly ideal candidate. Although you might be intimidated by my awesome German heritage.

I make up for the things I lack by having a skull tattoo. =0)

Loved this post. I want to get to know Sandra and Amanda now!!

AimeeLS

What Tiffany said.

Brandt Dodson

Wow. The answer to that last question is a good one. I believe the apostle Paul said the same thing and look what his writing accomplished.

Laura Droege

I guess you know how to shock Broca, Chip; several people have commented on the "soft voice" thing! Oddly enough, I don't remember your voice being particularly soft or loud when I met you.

Tiffany had a great idea: can we have a similiar Q&A with Sandra and Amanda? I want to know what about them would surprise us.

Pegg Thomas

So being a mixture of Irish, Blackfoot, Welsh, and German... I need not apply, eh?

chip responds

That's a good idea about doing a similar Q&A with both Sandra and Amanda, Laura... hmmm...

Jennifer King

Hi Chip,
I can't help saying that I love the new MacGregor Literary website photo of the three of you! Fantastic photo! And a great addition to the website--the MacGregor Fabulous Three. Love it.

For those that have met you personally, Chip this post is so you.

But you forgot to mention you are SHORT with a soft voice. Until someone meets you you do seem very big, tall with an overpowering booming voice.

And you failed to mention that when you speak in the general sessions you never fail to make me cry. You show your heart in those times.

Therefore, when you come across as a jerk in your post, we who have met you and have heard you speak publicly feel we know your heart.

You are such a blessing to the writing community.

Thank you.
